Why KIT? That’s easy. I’ve been running remote-first companies out of coffee shops and coworking spaces for decades. And then 5 years ago I had my first child. And the whole thing stopped working.

On one side, work clubs like Switchyards and coffee shops are transformative – having a “third space” to focus, get into the flow and get some serious work done. Plus, I know first-hand the power of working around my friends and community to 10x my own creativity and productivity.

But they sure don’t work for parents. 

On the other side, as a dedicated parent of two, I’ve been introduced to the wonderful caretakers, nannies, full-time childcare centers, libraries, and parent groups…

but let’s be real for a minute.

There is never enough of the right kind of care, and never at the right times.

The work places don’t play nice with kids, and the kid places don’t really cut it for work.

So that’s why I am building KIT. Something new, for parents. 

The Vision for Kit

We’re modeling it on the wildly successful work club model popularized by Switchyards.

The Work Club Membership: a $100/mo membership-based, 24/7 access to high-speed internet and free coffee/tea.

The Family Club Membership: a $400/mo membership that includes access to the work club plus 2 4-hour childcare blocks per week. Use em whenever you like – members get priority scheduling over the public

The Private Office Membership: a $1000/mo private office, accessible 24/7, with access to the work club perks. and for $300, you can upgrade to the Family Club, complete with childcare perks.

That’s really it. We ran the numbers and think we can sustain 150 work club members and 50 Family Club members. Who wants in?

To make that work club work, we will provide:

• Internet that never drops a Zoom call (duh).
• Enough of the right spaces to meet in-person or remotely with clients, contractors, and collaborators without fear of interruption.
• Creating a space for real community, providing real support, not just lip service.
• Comfortable work spaces, no matter what kind of member or visitor you are.
• Staff that listens to you and your needs, not just following trends at your expense.

To make childcare truly accessible and as useful as we can, the critical non-negotiables are:

• Providing a safe space for your child. Period.
• Working WITH your existing childcare to fill the gaps that other less flexible childcare options simply can’t provide.
• Creating a positive, health-forward atmosphere that helps parents and their children let their guard down during easy and stressful times alike.
• Giving parents and their children the space and environment they need to grow and develop, together.

But.. we need you.

But possibly the most important part is that we build something together. And that’s where you come in. 

Community is not something one person magically creates. Community grows and evolves as voices come together to create new opportunities and support one another.
