– Introducing –

Meet Kit 🦊

Simply put, Kit is Coworking and Childcare, in the same space.

It’s the brainchild of one entrepreneur (me!) who had the audacity of starting a family…

While trying to grow a small business…

At the same time. Gasp.

On one side, as a remote-first entrepreneur, I’ve worked in dozens of coworking spaces over the last 25 years, and I know first-hand the power of that fervor, that community.

But I’ve never encountered a space properly built to uplift and support entrepreneurial parents (at least, not in the ways we need – that bring stability and resiliency).

On the other side, as a dedicated husband and parent of two, I’ve been introduced to the wonderful caretakers, nannies, full-time childcare centers, libraries, and parent groups, but let’s be real for a minute.

It just never feels like the system was built to support the whole family in a cohesive way, in a wraparound way, and many of us end up playing that game of childcare roulette that many of us in the southwest recognize – never enough of the right kind of care, and never at the right times.

This is exactly what Kit is about.

We parents and business owners have been in this world long enough to know that work/life balance is a beautiful fantasy at best. What we need most is to redefine that stale idea and build something new.

It’s time for work/life harmony.

The Vision for Kit

This is something new, so we’re going to take our first best shot at it. It’s a marathon, not a sprint, and that means that we need to build responsibly and with buy-in from the people we serve. A wise man in a yellow suit once said “love your customer more than your product”. And that’s what we’re doing. We’re building something based on the real, tangible needs of our beloved parents and community.

My team and I have a short list of initial things we know we need to include. Table stakes if you will.

To make work happen, we understand certain non-negotiables, like:

  • Internet that never drops a Zoom call (duh).
  • Enough of the right spaces to meet in-person or remotely with clients, contractors, and collaborators without fear of interruption.
  • Creating a space for real community, providing real support, not just lip service.
  • Comfortable work spaces, no matter what kind of member or visitor you are.
  • Staff that listens to you and your needs, not just following trends at your expense.

To make childcare truly accessible and as useful as we can, the critical non-negotiables are:

  • Providing a safe space for your child. Period.
  • Working WITH your existing childcare to fill the gaps that other less flexible childcare options simply can’t provide.
  • Creating a positive, health-forward atmosphere that helps parents and their children let their guard down during easy and stressful times alike.
  • Giving parents and their children the space and environment they need to grow and develop, together.

Step 2: Follow Kit on Social Media!

Then follow us on social media for your front-row tickets to the best new show in town!

But.. we need you.

But possibly the most important part is that we build something together. And that’s where you come in.

Community is not something one person magically creates. Community grows and evolves as voices come together to create new opportunities and support one another.

For that reason I’d like to formally invite you all to join this wild journey. Whether as a spectator, a collaborator or an excited entreparenteur, it’s going to take all of us to get this thing off the ground.

Sign up below to get involved.

For updates, for information, for memes and mistakes. It’s going to be a wild ride, and I’d love for you to join the ride.

Onward!

Rich (or Richard) Sherman
